Ink · Gold leaf
I write, but I do not let the words arrive. The stroke keeps the breath and the rhythm of a line of poetry while the meaning stays just out of reach. I think of each sheet as a letter to someone who will read it with their eyes rather than their language.
Farah Siddiqui grew up in a household of Urdu poets in Lucknow and studied calligraphy formally before turning towards abstraction. Her works on handmade paper use the gesture of script without legible words. She has exhibited in Delhi, Dubai and London and works from a converted haveli room in Chowk.
