Most of my photographs are two colours and one line. I am interested in the moment before a landscape becomes legible — when you cannot quite tell where the field ends and the fog begins. I print them large, because a horizon is only convincing when it is wider than you.

Ishaan Gill photographs horizons in Punjab, Ladakh and Kutch on a medium-format camera. He waits for the hour when the land and sky almost become the same colour. His archival pigment prints are produced in small runs in his own Chandigarh studio.
